DSK Bank believes that you can decide where to go, and our student’s loan will support you on the path you have chosen.

The loan is intended for financing under-graduate and post-graduate students, studying full time for the bachelor's, master's or doctoral degrees at a higher education institution established in Bulgaria. It is provided for payment of tuition and / or maintenance fees.

Students loan types:

  • You can apply for student loans to pay for tuition fees and/or living expenses.
  • The maintenance loan is granted upon the birth or full adoption of a child during the period of study. It can only be used by the parent who exercises parental rights, if both parents do so – only by one of them.

Who is this loan intended for:

The student loan is suitable for all students and doctoral students who meet simultaneously the following requirements:

  • Bulgarian citizens, citizens of another EU Member State, another country of the European Economic Area or the Swiss Confederation;
  • are under 35 years of age as of the loan application date;
  • are trained in a regular form for acquiring the educational-qualification degrees: bachelor’s (bachelor or professional bachelor) or master’s, or the educational and scientific doctoral degree in a state or private educational institution or scientific organization and functioning according to the law;
  • have not acquired the same educational qualification or educational and scientific degree;
  • have not been removed and have not interrupted their studies, except in cases explicitly specified in the Law on Granting Loans to Students and Doctoral Students.

Loan amount

  • For payment of tuition fees:the amount of the loan is equal to the due fees for the remaining period of studies of the student/ doctoral student, according to the curriculum of the respective specialty and educational-qualification or educational and scientific degree.

  • For maintenance: the amount of the loan is formed as a sum of the semester expenses for a period equal to the remaining term of study of the borrower according to the curriculum of the respective specialty and educational qualification or educational and scientific degree. The semester maintenance is equal to the minimum salary in the country at the moment of mastering the specific bank transfer, multiplied by the number of months during the respective semester.


Loan utilisation

  • The loan for payment of tuition fees is utilized through transfers to a bank account of the higher education institution or the scientific organization;

  • The maintenance loan is utilized by transfers to the current account of the student/ doctoral student with DSK Bank, at the beginning of each semester, according to the loan agreement;


Grace period

The grace period for the repayment of principal and interest - this is the period from the conclusion of the loan agreement to the end of the first year from the first date for the last state examination or thesis defence, according to the curriculum for the department and the educational degree, respectively from the doctoral program expiring date. During this period the student/ doctoral student does not have to pay the principal and interest under the loan. The interest accrued on the utilised part of the loan during the grace period is capitalized annually.

The student’ loan is offered in accordance with the terms of the Law on Granting Loans to Students and Doctoral Students. DSK Bank has concluded a Standard loan agreement for students and doctoral students with the Ministry of Education and Science.

  • Identity document.
  • Certificate of enrolment – issued by the higher education institution, confirming that you have not lost your status as a student or doctoral candidate and that you are eligible to enrol in the next semester.

Additional documents for a maintenance loan:

  • A copy of the birth certificate / or the relevant document issued by a foreign authority in which you are listed as a parent. In the case of full adoption – a copy of the final court decision granting the adoption request, in which you are listed as the adoptive parent.
  • A document issued by a higher education institution or a research organisation certifying that you held such status in the year of the child’s birth or, respectively, adoption.

You could use both types of loans.

Yes, it is possible not to draw funds from the approved loan during a given semester. In this case, you must submit a Certificate under Article 10, Paragraph 3 of the Student Loans Act, confirming that your studies have not been interrupted. The submission of this certificate is a mandatory legal requirement in all cases where no funds are drawn from the loan.

Additionally, you must submit a written declaration at a bank branch stating that you waive the disbursement of loan funds for the respective semester.

Interest is charged only on the disbursed portion of the loan, including during the grace period. During this period, the accrued interest is capitalized once a year and added to the disbursed amount. After the end of the grace period, the capitalized interest and the disbursed portion together form the principal, on which a repayment schedule with monthly installments over a 120-month term is calculated.

The grace period of the loan can be extended in the following cases:

  • Upon enrolment for educational-qualification Master's degree or a doctoral educational and scientific degree within the grace period and a loan agreement is concluded - for a period equal to the course of studies according to the curriculum;
  • In case of studies at another higher education institution or research organization - for a period not longer than two years;
  • In case of illness, maternity leave within the meaning of the Social Security Code - for a period not longer than two years.

    Obligations may be deferred in the following cases:

    - Upon enrolment for full time studies for educational-qualification Master's degree or a doctoral educational and scientific degree within one year after the end of the grace period - for a period equal to the course of studies according to the curriculum.

    - In case of permanent incapacity for work of 70 or over 70 per cent - for a period determined in the expert decision of the TEMC or NEMC - whereas the total period of deferral may not be longer than 3 years from the date of disability.

    Yes, you may deposit funds at any time, and the paid amount will be used to repay the interest accrued as of the respective interest date, and the balance will be used to repay the principal.

    Early repayments do not exempt you of the need to pay each subsequent monthly instalment under the loan.

    Yes, you can prepay the entire loan in advance and do not have to pay a fee for it.

    Everyone could have difficulty while repaying their loan. In case you experience such difficulties, you should immediately contact bank employees, who would assist you.
