The OneTree initiative for digital map of trees in Sofia has been launched
The OneTree initiative on creating a digital map of the urban tree vegetation has been launched. The project aims to bring together volunteers and experts in a crowdsourcing campaign to map and gather information about urban trees in Sofia. It will create a digital database of perennials on the ednodarvo.io platform. Such a database, which many big cities around the world use, will help raise awareness and improve care for urban trees.
The independent project was developed by landscape architects and software engineers with the support of Mastercard and DSK Bank, which invest in numerous initiatives for sustainable and smart development of cities in Bulgaria. In partnership with them, the first large-scale actions for marking a Sofia trees map will start along with the leafing of trees this spring. The initiative is open to everyone.
"Sustainable business development and digitalization are our strategic goals at DSK Bank. In this respect, the OneTree project for mapping trees in Sofia through an interactive platform combines both and fully reflects our priorities. We believe that the project will contribute to raising public awareness of the role and importance of urban vegetation, and its online mapping is a step that will facilitate the long-term preservation of trees and creation of a cleaner urban environment in Sofia," Tamas Hak-Kovacs, Chief Executive Officer of DSK Bank, said.
